Ivor Geoghegan answered on 28 Feb 2018:

I have worked in engineering and science for about 6 years. I worked in a company for two and half years making parts for stents (devices that help with blocked blood vessels) and then went back doing a year long masters course where I learned a lot more about science and engineering. This gave me the skills to apply for a PhD, which I have been doing for the last two and a half years.
