Blood vessels are made of long stringy proteins called collagen (which provides structure) and elastin (which is stretchy like a rubber band). There are also cells. Smooth muscle cells make up most of the vessel wall and contract to regulate blood pressure. Endothelial cells line the insides of the blood vessels.
