      Well when you eat something, it goes down your throat into your stomach in a process called peristalsis: a wave of muscle contractions push the food into your stomach. When you vomit, food leaves your stomach in a process called reverse peristalsis, so a wave of muscle contractions push food out of your stomach, up your throat, and out your mouth
