A cast is made from a substance called plaster of paris. It’s kinda like the plaster that you find on the walls of your house, just a little different. The doctors use it because they can put it on your arm or leg (or wherever you broke a bone) when the plaster is wet and then it hardens over time. You need it to be hard because it keeps your bone still and a broken bone heals best when it is kept still. When you bone is strong enough to take off the cast, then you can use it as much as you want
